Personality:
Matt's personality can be differentiated mostly by thinking of it as before and after Shadowland. There's the brooding man of before and the more aggressively optimistic man of after. It's a change that seemed quite sudden to the people around him, but it arose because of a change in the way he deals with the events in his life. The simplest way of putting it is through making the active choice to fight through his depression through action.
"It has been a miserable last few years. And every time I thought I'd finally hit rock bottom, God somehow found me a bigger shovel."
He's making the effort to enjoy the little things in life and to not get too tied up in his own worries and problems. But it's a façade he's trying desperately to keep up even when it's something that would have greatly upset the old Matt. Foggy found it uncharacteristic and initially thought it was a sign that he was losing it so it may even border inappropriate at times.
Prior to the events of Shadowland, it's an understatement to say that Matt was going through a rather difficult time. As a result he was mostly withdrawn, sullen and was frequently on the verge of losing his temper. This moodiness permeated into all aspects of his life, both as Matt Murdock, the lawyer and as Daredevil, the costumed superhero. It made for a very intense character that basically embodied the concept of Catholic guilt. He's still intense and all that, he's just better at making it less obvious in front of others.
"Whether you kill innocents or criminals, it's murder."But even with this before and after differentiation are just surface changes, he's still the same man merely with a different way of presenting himself. He's still the idealised lawyer of fiction. He truly believes in the law and all those other pleasant things. With the role his Catholicism plays in his life, he is a righteous man concerned with doing the right thing. However as law orientated he tries to be, there are times when he slips and does things that he wouldn't normally condone and it's a source of immense guilt for him when he does. He's so dedicated to his role that he tries to avoid making time sensitive appointments because he knows that if he hears a crime in progress, he will stop to take care of it. Being a street level hero with heightened senses, this means he will never be on time.
Fundamentally, he's not a forthcoming person, the stereotypical Catholic guilt and his tendency to take problems for himself means he's more likely to keep secrets than the average person. Not to mention he needed something to make him feel stronger after the accident that robbed him of his sight and secrets were a easy way to get that. This reluctance tends to be the greatest strain on his relationships.
He's a bit old fashioned and holds slightly misogynistic views on relationships and dating despite some of his ex's being from the superpowered community. He views himself as the one doing the protecting and any failing is a reflection of him. Despite being blind, appearances are very important to him, both literally and metaphorically. Matt puts in a lot of effort to look good to others, he tries to keep his personal life tidy (or tries to make sure no one else can see how much of a mess it is) and ensures he is well groomed when meeting other people. Any deviation is a clear indication of how badly things are going for him. If he looks anything other than perfectly put together he's reached a new low.
Foggy once said that he expected someone like Matt to be a stage magician because of his theatrics. He has a good sense of timing and awareness of social norms as shown by his skill as a trial lawyer. He knows how to work a jury to see his client's side of the story. It's also shown in his quips to the various criminals he comes across, although he's far less verbal than someone like Spider-Man.
"And may be indicative of why Luke Cage refers to me as a hero to the judgement impaired everywhere."His superhero name is Daredevil and he's known as the man without fear so as you might guess, he has a tendency to jump into things head first. It's somewhat of a running theme that if Matt could see half the things he gets caught up in, he'd be terrified. He is a really courageous person considering he's a blind man navigating a world that relies greatly on sight and even then decides to out there and fight crime.
Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping:
Matt is your average human who was unlucky enough to have been hit by radioactive waste as a child which rendered him blind, but compensated for it by heightening his remaining senses. As a result he has a 360 degree awareness of his surroundings at all times due to something he calls his radar sense which is essentially taking in the information his other senses gives him and layering over it to provide a map to navigate with. The exact nature of his radar sense isn't clear, but it is known that while the closest comparison he has is echolocaion it isn't really that. Even if something was affecting his hearing he'd still be aware of his surroundings even if the range or sensitivity might be affected. The sensitivity of his remaining senses is such that he's able to recognise colour and read books that aren't written in Braille by touch and tell whether someone is lying by their heartbeat.
He is also in excellent shape and is highly skilled at hand to hand combat, using a mixture of different styles.
